Lyric Papers is founded and illustrated by Courtney McClain. Courtney has a 20 year background in the entertainment industry where she works as a costume designer for stage and film. This has given her experience in world-building through a combination of historical research, illustration and manufacturing. Courtney received an MFA (hons) from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. She then went on to work in the New York theatre world including Broadway and Off-Broadway projects such as Shakespeare in the Park, Boston Ballet and Mark Morris Dance. After that she advanced to film working on design teams for such films as Wolf of Wall Street, Mary Poppins Returns, Maleficent 2, The Favourite and many more. Additionally she received two Emmy nominations for her work on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire and Starz' series, Mary & George.
Courtney has also received a Post- Graduate Diploma (hons) from Inchbald School of Design in London. This coupled with her love of illustration and drama planted a seed that has now sprouted in to Lyric Papers.
